Welcome To RedWingsBlog.com (First Post)

Welcome to redwingsblog.com!

I registered this domain with the intent of starting a blog sometime, maybe next season, or whenever. However, several circumstances came together to make today the perfect time to start. For one thing, the most recent game (2/29/08) marked Mickey Redmond’s triumphant and early return to the broadcast booth after having successful surgery to remove a tumor from his lung. Way to go, Mick! If that’s not enough for you, the most recent game was also the first game as a Red Wing for Brad Stuart who was traded to Detroit on draft deadline day. The game also happened to be played on leap year day, and featured a terrible call by the officials that probably cost the Wings the game. So I couldn’t resist starting my blog now even though it’s mid-season.

I will use this blog as a place to post my observations about the games and hopefully start some discussions with other fans. I plan to write a small review / commentary about each each game. They will probably only be a paragraph or two most of the time. I will also post news about the team from time to time. This blog will be updated very often during the season, and probably a few times during the off-season, too.

Since I watch every game, I will hopefully have a somewhat knowledgeable and interesting perspective on the way things are going. That’s my theory, anyway. You can decide for yourself.

I grew up in Michigan and was always a Red Wings fan but we moved to Florida just before I started high school. That made it tough to catch many Wings games. As cable TV improved I was able to see more games, but mostly just during the playoffs. Then about four years ago, I got NHL Center Ice and I’ve never looked back. I can’t imagine not seeing every game now.

One nice thing about NHL Center Ice, is that about half of the time I get to see the Detroit broadcasters which is a real treat. There are none better in the booth than Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond. Larry Murphy is also great between the benches, or in the studio, or filling in for Mickey on the road.

Anyway, that’s enough chit chat, let’s get to the games! Check the about page if you want more information about my background.

Thanks for checking out my blog, I hope you find it interesting. Please feel free to register and post your opinions in the comments sections.
